The questions to ask on a beach venue tour
Generic venue checklists miss the things that make or break a beach wedding — the ones about sand, wind, tide, and permits. Take these to every tour, and try to tour at the time of day you'd actually get married so you can see the light and feel the wind for yourself.
The setting & the light
- Which direction does the ceremony site face? West-facing means the sunset is behind you — gorgeous, but plan for glare. It's the most important question nobody asks.
- Where exactly does the ceremony happen — on the sand, on a deck, on a lawn above the water? Can we stand right at the water's edge?
- What's the tide doing on our date and time? Will the beach be wide or narrow when we say our vows?
- Is the beach private, or shared with the public? If shared, how do you handle onlookers and reserve our space?
Weather & the backup plan
- What's the weather backup — an indoor room, a tent, a covered pavilion? Walk it.
- Who decides to move to the backup, by when, and at what cost? Get the answer in the contract.
- How windy does it typically get at ceremony time in our season, and can we amplify the ceremony?
- Any seasonal issues — hurricane risk, sargassum seaweed, bugs at dusk?
Permits, rules & sound
- Who pulls the beach permit — you or us? What does it cost and what does it restrict?
- What's the noise ordinance / music curfew? When does amplified music have to stop?
- What can we set up on the sand — chairs, an arch, a tent, aisle decor? Any staking or open-flame limits?
- Is alcohol allowed on the beach, and do you provide the bar or can we?
Capacity, catering & logistics
- What's the real seated capacity for the ceremony and the reception — with a dance floor and a weather backup that holds everyone?
- Catering: in-house, a preferred list, or can we bring our own? Is there a tasting?
- Restrooms: permanent facilities, or do we rent trailers?
- Parking and guest access over the sand — is there a firm path or mat for elderly guests and wheelchairs? Where do vendors load in?

Money & the contract
- What's the all-in price for our date and guest count — not the site fee, the whole number?
- What's included vs. added: chairs, setup, teardown, coordination, the weather backup?
- The payment schedule, the deposit, and the cancellation / date-change policy — especially the weather clause.
- Is event insurance required, and what does it need to cover?

Before the tour, read what couples actually say — every listing here surfaces the amenities and praise that come up again and again in reviews, filtered to comments about the wedding and the setting (not the resort's breakfast). If reviewers keep mentioning a smooth rain-plan day or a coordinator by name, that's your answer to half these questions before you arrive.
