From the reviews

Interesting park with totems and buildings but also a breath taking Coastal setting behind. It was fascinating learning about the stories of the totems and the uses of the buildings. Being in them, we could really imagine what it might have been like.

A small but important piece of history, placed in a relaxing and reasonable short hike. I highly recommend you bring some cash for the local bus and take it here for a self guided tour.

★★★★★ — Stan, Jun 2026

We took the bus from downtown ($2 per adult, $1 per youth ages 12-17, children are free) while cruising into Ketchikan in early June. The park was undergoing trail renovations so the loop was closed.

The totem bight state historical park is an entertaining and historical experience to learn about the Alaskan totem bights while appreciating the scenery and local craftsmanship. A great stop on your cruise excursion or a guided tour.

Getting married at Totem Bight State Historical Park

Totem Bight State Historical Park is a public beach or park, so a ceremony here almost always needs a permit from the managing city, county, or state parks office — and the rules matter: many public beaches cap your guest count, set ceremony windows, and restrict what you can set up (some ban chairs, arches, and amplified sound entirely). There's no on-site coordinator, catering, or weather backup, so you'll bring your own vendors and a rain plan. The payoff is a stunning setting at a fraction of a private venue's cost. Start with our public-beach permit guide, then call the local office to confirm this season's rules.
