Interesting park with totems and buildings but also a breath taking Coastal setting behind. It was fascinating learning about the stories of the totems and the uses of the buildings. Being in them, we could really imagine what it might have been like.
A small but important piece of history, placed in a relaxing and reasonable short hike. I highly recommend you bring some cash for the local bus and take it here for a self guided tour.
We took the bus from downtown ($2 per adult, $1 per youth ages 12-17, children are free) while cruising into Ketchikan in early June. The park was undergoing trail renovations so the loop was closed.
The totem bight state historical park is an entertaining and historical experience to learn about the Alaskan totem bights while appreciating the scenery and local craftsmanship. A great stop on your cruise excursion or a guided tour.
