We’ve camped at El Capitan Canyon many times before and have always loved it, but this was our first visit with our toddler. Overall, it was still a really special experience. The views and ambiance are absolutely breathtaking - peaceful, quiet, and perfect for a relaxing getaway.
This past weekend, I brought my 6-month old son (wearing headphones) to the summer concert event ($20-ish per person for tickets). I was apprehensive, as it was our first big, loud outing.
We spent a night at El Capitan Canyon Resort in order to see how this Clamping is like. Normally we stay at Alisal Ranch for Birthday celebrations, but really enjoyed our stay here! We stayed in the Elderberry units, which we (myself, wife and 4 of our friends) found to be clean, well stocked and peaceful.
Great location just north of Santa Barbara. Quaint, well appointed rooms that are private and have all the basic necessities in the cabins. Everyone on staff is friendly and helpful and waves when you pass them on the property. I’ve visited multiple times and always leave thinking of when I will come back.
Getting married at El Capitan Canyon
Two things make the tour worth the drive. First, see the ceremony spot at the exact time of day you'd say your vows — a west-facing beach glows at sunset but bakes at noon, and you'll want to feel the wind, watch where the sun sits, and walk the path your guests take across the sand. Second, bring your real questions: the weather backup (where does the ceremony move if it rains or the wind kicks up?), who pulls the beach permit, the sound-ordinance curfew, the catering and bar policy, and exactly what's included — chairs, setup, and teardown on sand are where quotes quietly diverge. Peak beach dates book 12–18 months out, so if the tour feels right, ask what's open in your season before you leave.
