The First Colony Inn is such a special place. We held our wedding here in June 2026, and it was an absolutely phenomenal experience from beginning to end. I've been visiting the Outer Banks for 20+ years and somehow missed this place up until this visit. It's the cutest historic inn, hidden from the main road by lovely foliage so it feels really private.
Just stayed at First Colony Inn. It's still off-season, and they are fixing things up for the summer season. Highlights: It's on the Register of Historic Places, so you are stepping back into time, it was built in the 1930's and remodeled over time. But it still has that regal quality about it.
What an amazing property! It's perfectly situated close to the water, restaurants and shopping. The rooms are so beautifully decorated, preserving it's southern charm. The bed was super comfortable and the grounds are just breathtaking!
Getting married at First Colony Inn
Two things make the tour worth the drive. First, see the ceremony spot at the exact time of day you'd say your vows — a west-facing beach glows at sunset but bakes at noon, and you'll want to feel the wind, watch where the sun sits, and walk the path your guests take across the sand. Second, bring your real questions: the weather backup (where does the ceremony move if it rains or the wind kicks up?), who pulls the beach permit, the sound-ordinance curfew, the catering and bar policy, and exactly what's included — chairs, setup, and teardown on sand are where quotes quietly diverge. Peak beach dates book 12–18 months out, so if the tour feels right, ask what's open in your season before you leave.
