Great place to visit with kids if you're in Carolina Beach or Kure Beach. A bit of a drive if you're in Wilmington or Wrightsville Beach. Family of four will run $60 w/o discounts. Good for 1-3 hrs of entertainment, depending on the programs and how fast you walk through the exhibit. We visited in October on a weekday.
Visited with my 19 year-old daughter. Not too pricey, $15 each. I really like aquariums. We were in Fort Fisher for the day on the beach. It was a good ending to our day. Easy in and out. Small but good things to look at. Few of the displays were in transition. Several excellent tanks. Cool sharks. It was worth going.
"The NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher is a must-visit if you’re anywhere near Kure Beach or Wilmington. What makes this place special is how it tells a story—you start at the freshwater streams of the Cape Fear River and follow the water all the way out to the 'Open Ocean.
The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher is a great place to spend a few hours, especially if you’re traveling with family or just want something fun and relaxing to do near the beach.
Getting married at North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher
Two things make the tour worth the drive. First, see the ceremony spot at the exact time of day you'd say your vows — a west-facing beach glows at sunset but bakes at noon, and you'll want to feel the wind, watch where the sun sits, and walk the path your guests take across the sand. Second, bring your real questions: the weather backup (where does the ceremony move if it rains or the wind kicks up?), who pulls the beach permit, the sound-ordinance curfew, the catering and bar policy, and exactly what's included — chairs, setup, and teardown on sand are where quotes quietly diverge. Peak beach dates book 12–18 months out, so if the tour feels right, ask what's open in your season before you leave.
