Perfect place outside of the city for those looking to take in a bucolic natural environment a short distance from the city. My wife and I used the convenient location to see Muir Woods National Monument early before the crowds. The food and beverages feel authentic to the setting and were savory and delicious.
We dropped in for lunch after spending morning at the beach. It has a lot of ambience with long wood tables and candlesticks, stone fire places wood ceiling. The patio was bright and its own fireplace. A little hot under the plastic panel roof. But has a relaxed vibe. The servers matched the vibe. Casual and friendly.
Just outside of the Illustrious Muir Beach lies a historical landmark. Feels like an English pub from the 19th century. We had the fish and chips with steamed clams, very delicious! I appreciated all of the rustic furniture and dollar bills in a multitude of currencies attached to the ceiling. A destination dinner!
British pub style food with what we call comfort food. Fish and chips, stews, organic salads, liver and onions, tarts, pasties, sandwiches potatoes, mashed potatoes, mashers, potato gratin, chips, and other sides. Overcast chilly beach weather perfect for this type of food.
Getting married at Pelican Inn
Two things make the tour worth the drive. First, see the ceremony spot at the exact time of day you'd say your vows — a west-facing beach glows at sunset but bakes at noon, and you'll want to feel the wind, watch where the sun sits, and walk the path your guests take across the sand. Second, bring your real questions: the weather backup (where does the ceremony move if it rains or the wind kicks up?), who pulls the beach permit, the sound-ordinance curfew, the catering and bar policy, and exactly what's included — chairs, setup, and teardown on sand are where quotes quietly diverge. Peak beach dates book 12–18 months out, so if the tour feels right, ask what's open in your season before you leave.
