From the reviews
Nice serene peaceful walk in a national park across from a steel mill. Very interesting concept to see how nature and industry are separate but cohesive. The center has a snack food vendor, restrooms, gathering/meeting area, outdoor picnic tables and fireplace.
I came here for a meeting and really enjoyed the location and views. I wish there were a few places to sit by the water, also the boards to the stairs were soft and sunk down when you step on them... it was an unsettling feeling and for those with balance issues or impaired walking... it can be an issue.
Another awesome destination feature in the Indiana Dunes National Park. There are 3 parking lots along the access road, plenty of room for any size rig or RV. The visitor center and bathrooms were clean and well maintained. There's travel information at interior of the building adjacent to the flush toilet bathrooms.
Use your blinders as you drive in, or amaze at our steel production facilities. But they're are two ends of the spectrum as you dive in. This place is a nature's gem. Some of the best dunes scenery with pines, oaks, and wildflowers galore. The beach could use more regular clean ups.
Getting married at Portage Lakefront & Riverwalk
Portage Lakefront & Riverwalk is a public beach or park, so a ceremony here almost always needs a permit from the managing city, county, or state parks office — and the rules matter: many public beaches cap your guest count, set ceremony windows, and restrict what you can set up (some ban chairs, arches, and amplified sound entirely). There's no on-site coordinator, catering, or weather backup, so you'll bring your own vendors and a rain plan. The payoff is a stunning setting at a fraction of a private venue's cost. Start with our public-beach permit guide, then call the local office to confirm this season's rules.
