Stayed here for two nights in May. We wanted to stay somewhere dog friendly. The executive was spacious and had a great view of a beach and the bay. Not to close to be kept up all night with the "Orh orh" of the Sealions.
My family and I love to travel and after staying at many different hotels, I have learned the importance of reading reviews and finding the right place to stay. After our experience at Portola Hotel, I can confidently say: look no further — this is the hotel you want to book!
This is about our 5th time staying here and we will continue to do so whenever we are in Monterey. The location is perfect, the staff are friendly and super helpful. We have had no bad experiences at the Portola. Its super close to the public beach, and their are a bunch of restaurants within walking distance.
I loved this hotel! My husband and I went for a quick weekend getaway and we both agreed it was a beautiful hotel in the perfect location. We upgraded to the deluxe room with the private patio, it was huge. AC worked great and the bathroom was really nice and spacious.
Getting married at Portola Hotel & Spa at Monterey Bay
Two things make the tour worth the drive. First, see the ceremony spot at the exact time of day you'd say your vows — a west-facing beach glows at sunset but bakes at noon, and you'll want to feel the wind, watch where the sun sits, and walk the path your guests take across the sand. Second, bring your real questions: the weather backup (where does the ceremony move if it rains or the wind kicks up?), who pulls the beach permit, the sound-ordinance curfew, the catering and bar policy, and exactly what's included — chairs, setup, and teardown on sand are where quotes quietly diverge. Peak beach dates book 12–18 months out, so if the tour feels right, ask what's open in your season before you leave.
