The "Insider" Tip: A local recommended this spot to us, and it was a fantastic find. The Black Sand Hack: Everyone talks about the famous black sand beach (Waiʻānapanapa) that requires paid reservations, but this beach looks like a black sand beach (dark volcanic sand) and is completely free!
This is a very relaxing place to hang out while in Hana. It's normally very busy especially on the weekends, filled with mostly Hana residents as well as tourists. FACILITIES: There is a small covered pavillion with wooden picinic tables. I'm not sure if you have to reserve them or they're first come, first served.
My wife and I drove to Hana on Saturday afternoon in September (9/17 I think). We stayed at the Hana Maui resort and got some food at the food trucks up the road. Our evening was ended with a walk around the hotel and ended up at the Hana Bay Beach Park. It was very cool as the sun was setting.
A great little l spot right on the water. The park is taken care of an has some great views. Its a big local spot to enjoy the weekend, so just be mindful to respect the area and those that live around it. They have a small black sand beach alongside, not for swimming though.
