This was a 35 minute walk from Hilo cruise pier terminal. I ventured out to make it and found it was worth the trek . What a beautiful place, it was surrounded by huge trees 🌳 and greenery. There were manicured gardens and ponds as well as a rocky beach area.
Liliʻuokalani Gardens, often referred to as the Japanese Garden in Hilo, is a serene and beautifully designed space that offers one of the most relaxing experiences on the Big Island. It is the largest authentic Japanese garden outside of Japan, and you can truly feel a sense of harmony and balance in every corner.
Liliʻuokalani Gardens in Hilo is such a chill, beautiful spot right on the bay. It’s like a peaceful Japanese garden dropped into Hawaii — think winding paths, cute red bridges over koi ponds, stone lanterns, pagodas, a little teahouse, and those classic torii gates.
Really enjoyed strolling through here. The grounds are well maintained and the combo of the Japanese architecture with the ocean backdrop is stunning. It’s a great place for photos or a picnic and it’s a very easy, flat walk. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a chill activity in Hilo!
