“If you want to be with just adults this isn’t likely the beach for you but my wife needs a wheelchair and she can easily access the beach front and join us for a trip to the water.”

The FAMILY Beach! This is and will always be my go-to beach! It’s wonderful for children and first time swimmers. When first moved here this was the first beach I came to. I met a wonderful lady named “Rose”. Rose gave me friendship, clothing, and advice. I love Rose and this amazing beach.
This is the best beach in the Hilo area to bring children. There is a safe area for the little ones to play in the sand and water. There are toys for the kids if they get tired of being in the water. Many pavilions and bbq grills make this an ideal place for gatherings. The restrooms are kept clean and well stocked.
Wow such a wonderful beach for snorkeling and families with young kids. Shallow water so clean and clear.. We spotted so many turtles and fish here on a sunny Monday morning. Great location and good amount of parking is available. Also have public bathrooms and picnic tables.
Super nice beach area for kids and older adults that need an easy way to get into the water. White sand! Yes white sand with easy ramp to walk into the water. Break wall keeps big waves out most the time knee high to thigh high water. Great picnic area, restrooms, tables, and showers. 5 star
Getting married at Onekahakaha Beach Park
Onekahakaha Beach Park is a public beach or park, so a ceremony here almost always needs a permit from the managing city, county, or state parks office — and the rules matter: many public beaches cap your guest count, set ceremony windows, and restrict what you can set up (some ban chairs, arches, and amplified sound entirely). There's no on-site coordinator, catering, or weather backup, so you'll bring your own vendors and a rain plan. The payoff is a stunning setting at a fraction of a private venue's cost. Start with our public-beach permit guide, then call the local office to confirm this season's rules.
