What a great location. The beach is wide and not crowded at all. The resort is a bit dated, although we opted for the not updated room for a lower cost. It was clean and comfortable. All rooms are ocean view. Definitely coming back. The only issue I have is a weird one.
Wow, what a beautiful place! The recent renovations have made a huge difference, as the building was starting to show its age. I heard it's under new management which has made a big difference in the overall look and feel.
They've done a lot of renovations and the rooms are definitely showing the love. This is a wonderful place to stay if you don't want crowds but still convenient to restaurants and shopping. Their restaurant on-site prepares some yummy dishes also so there's really no need to even leave!
This is the only place I stay when I am in the area! No other hotel has rooms as big as these, and the wall of glass gives you the best view of the ocean. It is less expensive than other hotels but has by far the best rooms.
Getting married at Shell Island Resort
Two things make the tour worth the drive. First, see the ceremony spot at the exact time of day you'd say your vows — a west-facing beach glows at sunset but bakes at noon, and you'll want to feel the wind, watch where the sun sits, and walk the path your guests take across the sand. Second, bring your real questions: the weather backup (where does the ceremony move if it rains or the wind kicks up?), who pulls the beach permit, the sound-ordinance curfew, the catering and bar policy, and exactly what's included — chairs, setup, and teardown on sand are where quotes quietly diverge. Peak beach dates book 12–18 months out, so if the tour feels right, ask what's open in your season before you leave.
