An Affair by the Lake is a total hidden gem! Despite growing up in nearby Middlebury and having many local ties, I never realized this stunning venue existed until starting the wedding planning process. Wow, I'm so glad I found it!
We couldn't have asked for a better venue for our wedding! Lorraine listened to our vision and worked with us every step of the way to bring it to life. She was incredibly accommodating, going above and beyond to ensure every detail was taken care of.
Great location for an event. We were there for my brother's wedding and stayed in the house for 3 nights. The amenities made it a wonderful time.
After two years of picking a beautiful venue of An Affair by the Lake, planning a wedding, having restrictions from Covid-19 postponing the wedding and then replanning a reception a year later, my son Justin and daughter-in-law Carly had the most beautiful wedding Sunday. Lorraine Franklin did an outstanding job.
Getting married at An Affair by the Lake
Two things make the tour worth the drive. First, see the ceremony spot at the exact time of day you'd say your vows — a west-facing beach glows at sunset but bakes at noon, and you'll want to feel the wind, watch where the sun sits, and walk the path your guests take across the sand. Second, bring your real questions: the weather backup (where does the ceremony move if it rains or the wind kicks up?), who pulls the beach permit, the sound-ordinance curfew, the catering and bar policy, and exactly what's included — chairs, setup, and teardown on sand are where quotes quietly diverge. Peak beach dates book 12–18 months out, so if the tour feels right, ask what's open in your season before you leave.
