These are great cottages right on the beach and a lot of people know it. I had to make reservations like a year out so keep that in mind. I got one of the remodeled cabins right on the beach front. Although I wouldnt really call it beach front since there was basically a mini forest between us and the ocean.
Stayed here a couple of times while visiting my brother. Highly recommended for military families. Cant get any better than having a beautiful cottage right on the beach in Kauai. Splurge for the units with the a/c, if they haven't upgraded all of them yet. It helps block out the sounds of the geckos and roosters!
Roomy, relaxing, isolated from crowds. Sleep to crashing waves (and shearwater birds!). Each bungalow is self-contained. Not a "safe" swimming beach, apparently, but you'll be alone on the sand most of the time! Great recharging of your soul here (don't tell anyone!)
These are very nice cottages in my opinion. It had everything we needed, cookie sheets, oven, washer/dryer in the unit. The location is a bit out there for getting to other things but the drive to the east side isn’t too bad. Our favorite beach was Poipu which was about 40 minutes away.
Getting married at Barking Sand Beach Cottages
Two things make the tour worth the drive. First, see the ceremony spot at the exact time of day you'd say your vows — a west-facing beach glows at sunset but bakes at noon, and you'll want to feel the wind, watch where the sun sits, and walk the path your guests take across the sand. Second, bring your real questions: the weather backup (where does the ceremony move if it rains or the wind kicks up?), who pulls the beach permit, the sound-ordinance curfew, the catering and bar policy, and exactly what's included — chairs, setup, and teardown on sand are where quotes quietly diverge. Peak beach dates book 12–18 months out, so if the tour feels right, ask what's open in your season before you leave.
